Yamanto Central Patisserie founder and head baker Leon Ly has won four awards at the 2023 Queensland Baking Show, including best gong for best high quality white half loaf.

The award places Yamanto Central Patisserie at the top of Queensland bakeries. They include:

– First: 680gm White Hi-Top Half Married (2 pieces)

– Second: Condensed White Bread Square of 680g (4 pieces)

– Second: 680g of Condensed Square Grain Bread (4 pieces)

– Second: 2 Sausage Rolls

For Leon Ly, it’s not just a wonderful compliment, it’s a testament to this family’s struggle to find safety, happiness and a future for themselves in Australia.

When Leon Ly arrived in Brisbane from Vietnam in 1998 at the age of 16 with his family, he longed to start a new life and connect with his great-grandmother, who fled war-torn Vietnam in 1981.

Leon has always had an interest in food and baking and this led him to open his own bakery. He was also mentored by the founder of Ray’s Patisserie and fell in love with the idea of having his own business.

Today, Leon Ly owns several bakeries, including Yamanto Central Patisserie, which opened in Yamanto Central Shopping Center in 2021.

“I am very proud to win these wonderful awards. I work 14 hours a day, six days a week cooking, running the business and constantly looking for new ideas and ways to create exciting new products for our customers,” said Leon Ly.

“Breads and sweets are versatile and wonderful products. From sandwiches to morning tea treats, afternoon treats to evening desserts, there’s plenty you can do with them to surprise and delight any palate.

“Our awards demonstrate the quality of our wonderful products here at Yamanto Central Patisserie and I hope more people come to our center to visit us and see what all the fuss is about.”

Yamanto Central Shopping Center owner Vicki Leavy said she is honored to have Yamanto Central Patisserie as part of her wonderful community.

“It’s hard to pass by Leon’s wonderful bread and pastries, located to the left of the center’s main entrance, as it all looks so tempting,” said Leavy.

“Yamanto Central Patisserie has been in operation since day one of our opening in 2021 and now the rest of the country knows thanks to the bakery’s awards at this year’s Queensland Baking Show.

“There is a lot to offer at Yamanto Central Shopping Center. With our wonderful range of retailers, health and wellbeing facilities, food and restaurant options, we truly are the heart of Ipswich’s shopping and lifestyle.

“Yamanto Central Patisserie’s 2023 Queensland Baking Show Awards showcase the high quality of food and shopping experiences everyone can expect at Yamanto Central Shopping Center and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our centre.”
